Miss Culkin's class (Y1) received a thank you letter from the charity Innocent for helping to raise funds to support the wellbeing of older people

 

 

Pupils were involved in the Mayors Show charity appeal

Pupils performed Irish dancing and played musical instruments during the show.

 

Bishop Paul McAleenan visited the school with Father Michael (Stevenage Parish Priest)

Bishop Paul was a priest at St Joseph's twenty two years ago. He was very involved in the life of the school at the time and was delighted to carry out this visit - the first to a primary school since his ordination as Bishop.
Bishop Paul stayed for the morning and enjoyed his lunch with pupils - our Apostles of Mercy. He also spoke at the whole school assembly.

Four of the `Apostles' joined with all the other Diocesan schools to participate in a Year of Mercy Mass at Westminster Cathedral (celebrant Cardinal Vincent).

RE focussed Governors' meeting

Updated SEF presented to Governors. Many of their suggestions were able to be incorporated and the meeting ensured that all present had a good understanding of its importance and content. They also received a presentation about our Laudato Si week.

 

Staff attended a day's training on AT2 at Westminster Hall

Led by Margaret Carswell and focussed on our understanding and approach to teaching within AT2.

During the refurbishment of the Parish Church of St Joseph, Father DIke has agreed to offer weekly mass in the classrooms.

Nativity Play

Presented by Year 2 pupils with the other KS1 classes supporting the singing. Parents, pupils and staff given the opportunity to see a performance as part of the journey through Advent.

 

VH and MH contributed to Cafod training on Laudato Si

VH and MH led a training session at Vaughn House. The focus was on Laudato Si following week in school.

Visit from Father Kakuba

Father Kakuba visits the school every two years to update us on the work in Uganda and the Kanyike Project. His visits and the fund raising that we do for him are an important part of our Catholic social Teaching.

Laudato Si week

Usual timetable was suspended and the entire week was dedicated to developing pupil's understanding of the Pope's encyclical 'Laudato Si'. Please see summary of the week and all the events that were included.

Bishop John celebrated Mass in the Letchworth Parish Church (St Hugh of Lincoln) for all primary schools in the Deanery. St Vincent de Paul school was very well represented by staff, pupils and parents.

Macmillan Coffee Afternoon

Parents were invited to participate and to make contribution to the charity. This event is linked to Catholic Social Teaching and the Corporate Acts Mercy.

 

Welcome Assembly led by Year 6 pupils

This is an annual event to welcome new members to the school community.

 

Harvest Assembly led by Year 3 pupils

Following the assembly, food was donated to the Food Bank and to the Stevenage Haven for the homeless. This event is also linked to Catholic Social teaching and the Corporate Acts of Mercy.

Pupils, staff and parents invited to attend. Prayers led by PK but pupils prepared the Holy space and distributed rosaries etc.

25th Anniversary of St Vincent de Paul school

A sunday afternoon Mass was offered in the Parish Church of St Joseph by Bishop John. This was followed by a celebration in the school, including dance and music reflecting the cultural diversity of our community.

Bishop's Cup netball & football competition

Involves all Catholic schools in the Deanery and is an annual event. It started when Bishop James O' Brien was the Hertfordshire Bishop and now continues in his memory. (St Vincent de Paul pupils won both the netball and the football matches!)
