In partnership with the Church, we recognise that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith and we aim to support you in this key role.

With this in mind, we aim to support you as we move through the liturgical seasons in the spiritual formation of your child.

Lenten Preparations

We hope that the following documents help to guide you through the Lenten season.

Lent is a season when we often reflect on ourselves and aim to 'change our hearts for the better'. The Sacrament of Reconciliation can help us to engage with this.

Some useful resources for family prayer during Lent are available here on the CAFOD website:

Reconciliation - a beautiful Sacrament

In school children tend to make their First Reconciliation in Year 3 but can make it in any of the junior classes. You may wish to speak to your priest about this. In school we provide opportunities for children to take part in the sacrament of reconciliation during Lent & Advent. We usually have three or four priests available who position themselves in a corner of the Junior Hall.

Music is playing so as to provide privacy and our priests are great at guiding the children through each step. It is a very supportive set up and the children tend to leave with a spring in their step!

A focal display is set up in the middle of the hall and chairs are arranged around the Marian Prayer area ready for the children to pray their penance.

Children who have not made their First Reconciliation are not able to receive the absolution but may choose to speak to a priest at this time instead.

These are the documents that we use to help our children get ready for Reconciliation:
